Guilty Pleasure: SPAM

OK. I love SPAM. I’m not talking about junk e-mail. I’m talking about the mystery meat in a can that, let’s face it, is a product eaten by many even if they won’t admit it. I like to eat SPAM with white rice and tomatoes, sometimes with a fried egg. Hello, salty goodness!

Obama likes Spam Musubi (see article here). I’ll have to try this myself. Or maybe I should use this as an excuse to visit Hawaii.

Oooh, these SPAM puffs from spam-uk.com look good!

Of course, there’s the classic SPAM burger.

Wish List

Stuff that I want right now:

Complete Do-It-Yourself Manual: Completely Revised and Updated published by Readers Digest. I don’t necessarily think that what Apartment Therapy says should be held as gospel, but if they rely on this book, then I want it for myself.

Dead Like Me: Life After Death because I loved the TV series and because Henry Ian Cusick is in it and I am loving the Desmond right now.

A shiny red utility knife because mine disappeared and it came in my little toolbag and I can’t find a shiny red one in the store.

Bottled Taco Bell Hot Sauce because it makes a lot of things taste a lot better and I feel bad hoarding sauce packets from the restaurants.

Someone to pay for my HD channels because the awesome TVs of today are only awesome if you have HD.

A treadmill that is appropriate for my condo because my ass is fat and I would like to be able to work out at home.

The Melio step stool from DWR because it is oh-so-pretty, comes in red, and I really do need it to reach the higher shelves of the built-in bookcase of my condo. The previous owner had one in black, I think…I wish he had left it. Oh, well!

A vacuum cleaner. For obvious reasons.

The end. Buy me stuff!

New Guilty Pleasure? Caribou Coffee Coolers

Yum. Yum. Yum. Thanks to M.B. for introducing me to the coffee cooler, a delightful blended coffee drink from Caribou Coffee. I’ll just say that it leaves me wishing that there was a Caribou Coffee drive-thru on the way to work. Perk – less calories than my usual drink and it comes in decaf (Starbucks appears to have discontinued making decaf fraps).

Guilty Pleasure: Lifehouse

Whether you realize it or not, you’ve heard a song by Lifehouse before: You and Me, Hanging By a Moment, etc. Anyone who watches Smallville knows that they’re featured heavily on that show. But what really turned me on to Lifehouse recently was Scrubs. You can listen to my two favorite Lifehouse songs. I can listen to Make Me Over like ten times in a row and never tire of it. Both are off their album “Who We Are”. Check out Lifehouse on Amazon.com.

I'm in Love

This, my friends, is an iMac. I get to use one of these at work (24-inch). I’m in love with this thing. There are no other words to describe it. The screen is so huge and clear…tears are coming to my eyes just thinking about it. I do have one beef: the top of the machine gets really hot after you use it for few hours. I’m talking crazy laptop-type heat that can make guys go sterile. Alas, these are quite pricey, and my little MacBook is all I need. Maybe I’ll own one of these someday, when the machines I already have decided to crash.

Free Books Online!!

The Gutenberg projects puts books that are out of copyright online – it’s a free for all! You can download for viewing on your PDA, or simply download a text file. Graphic designers: you can copy all the text and design/print your own fancy-dancy book. Books by Mark Twain, Jane Austen, Abrose Bierce (look at all my fancy name-dropping), and thousands of others are available.

On another note, I found an AWESOME web site for purchasing used books (regular books, not textbooks). For the longest time, I’ve been trying to track down the Bloomsbury versions of the Harry Potter series. Crazy fans have noted the language differences between these and the Scholastic versions, so I’m curious. I finally got books 1-3 without having to pay an arm and a leg.

Chocofin

There are different degrees of chocolate. There are your everyday, “yeah, okay, fine, that’ll do” chocolates such as your basic Hershey and Nestle brand products. Then, there are your, “yummy, that totally makes this awful day just a smidge better” chocolates, like Toblerone, Ghirardell, and my personal favorite, Weiner Nougat (by Fazer – haven’t found this one anything in the US). Last but not least are the “oh my god, bring it; something that tastes this good must be the work of the devil” chocolates. Chocolate from Chocofin Chocolatier in Fountain Hills, AZ is the perfect example of this type of chocolate.

The chocolates from this place are made by hand and are easily one of the most luxurious chocolates I’ve ever had. They’re so luxurious that I eat a bite at a time in order to savor the tastiness and prolong the life of my supply.

Yum! Check them out at www.chocofin.com.
