I Officially Love Kris Allen

Sorry, Blake Lewis. Sorry, David Cook. I still love you guys, but Kris Allen is my new favorite American Idol contestant. I didn’t watch–no, I refused to watch American Idol the season that Kris was on. It was hard to not know what was happening, though. It was the season of the enigma that is Adam Lambert, that dude with the hat, the girl with the red hair, and Kris’s rendition of Kanye’s “Heartless”.

I probably wouldn’t have heard anything about Kris Allen post-Idol if it weren’t for the fact that I follow @rickey of Rickey.org on Twitter. It was through Rickey’s site that I heard “Live Like We’re Dying,” the first single off Kris Allen’s record. My only issue with the song is that Kris didn’t write it, but it’s a good poppy song with lyrics that make you think, he sounds good in it, and it indicated to me that the rest of the record would be filled with songs that are listenable and meaningful (to him, not necessarily to me, but you know what I mean).

Okay. So the truth is that I liked Kris Allen’s album because it was something I could listen to without really listening to it. It’s benign, has slow and fast stuff, it won’t ruin your day, it won’t rile you up, and you can bop your head and sing along to it if you want to. It’s the epitome of “catchy.” The more I listened to it… the more I listened to it. And then I started to really like it. And then I started to really think about it. Some songs make me smile. Some songs make me sad. Some songs even make my eyes water sometimes, if I’m PMSing or whatever.

Thanks, Kris Allen. You’ve made me feel better on bad days. And for that, you made it on my list of things I love.

I'll Miss You, Ryan Seacrest!

Yeeeee-haaaw!!! It’s finally over. And I actually screamed when the winner was announced. Psychotic!! In all seriousness, though, American Idol finally delivered an almost entirely entertaining results show! But, I gotta say, my own mother made a comment about how they couldn’t seem to get performers from this century who weren’t former Idols. Hmph. Ah, well.

Anyway, it was a satisfying show, in my humble opinion. I LOVED the “Hero” duet that the Davids sang. I was kind of worried about it when I heard they were going to do it, but it turned out nicely. I loved Cook with ZZTop. I loved Archie with One Republic. And I love that Simon apologized to Cook. I love that the two finalists respect one another. I’ll even go as far as to say that we’ve all been hard on Jeff Archie. Hmm. Where did that comment come from? Of course, I had a lot to say while watching the show, and now I just want to have a snack (maybe some cereal..yum).

I think the Guitar Hero commercials were a fun and awesome surprise. I think I screamed when David Cook’s aired. I don’t think there’ll be a season like this one for at least a couple of years!

Special thanks to Rickey, MJ, and the folks at EW.com. Super duper tanks to T.G. for turning me into a David Cook fan. You’ve created a monster!!!

The Madness is Almost Over

Okay. In about three hours, American Idol will finally be over! Whoo-hoo!! And the winner is…DAVID! Yaaaay!!! And, for all the cents that I spent texting in votes last night, I hope David Cook will freaking win. But what will make me most happy is knowing that the time-suck that is American Idol will no longer plague my life. To think that I actually tried not to care this season!

This Week's TV

It’s been a long time, but I feel like talking about my TV shows right now. So, let’s start with last Friday’s Battlestar Galactica, which starred Grace Park as a lot of Eights and Mary McDonnell as bald Roslin. Anders is such a sissy; he should have just put his hands in the computer thingy. Looking forward to tonight’s episode, when we get to see cutie-pie, half-Cylon, half-human, half-Asian, half-White dude baby!! Oh, and can I just say that casting Esai Morales as Grandpop Adama on Caprica is pure devilish GENIUS.

Next up is Greek, which is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorites. Every one of the characters is likable in some respect (except for Evan Chambers, who went directly to my sh*t list after Monday’s episode). And kudos to any show that can make Michael Copon look like he can actually act, even with a ridiculous hairstyle. Really, I like Copon, if only because he’s half-Filipino. Anyway, I’m glad they’re giving Rusty a new love interest. Oh – I almost forgot – mad props for getting Max Greenfield on the show, cuz he’s one of my faves. (What language am I speaking?)

I Don't Want to Miss a Thing…Dammit!

Ask anyone who knows me, and they’ll tell you that I had no plans to get sucked into American Idol this season. But we’re down to the final two (David versus David, whoohoo! Moment of silence for Syesha…) and I find myself actually caring…and voting (for D. Cook)…and blogging about it. Rickey, T.G., and my mom are to blame.

What’s really funny is that I’m actually kind of bored with this season. I mean, when www.votefortheworst.com is encouraging us to vote for Archie, that’s kind of crazy. And I’m not saying that people should beat box or change their hair for every show, but we already knew what David Cook was about way back in the beginning, we already knew what Archie was about way back in the beginning…the biggest mystery is Syesha’s staying power!

That being said, I don’t think we’re in for a predictable finale. Maybe D. Cook has been saving a couple tricks just for next week…and maybe Archie will be so overwhelmed that he has no idea what to do with himself. I just hope they both perform well!
